Practice questions on square and square root chapter and prepare for exam.

What is square root of a number?

Square root of a number when multiplied with square root of a number will give us original number.

How do we find the square root?

We find square root using subtraction method (subtraction by odd numbers), by prime factorization and by division method.

What is prime factorization method of finding square root?

When we find prime factors of a number, and find the pairs of each number, then we say number is a perfect square. We can take each factor once from a pair to find square root. For example – factor of 36 are – 2,2, 3,3. Here we have pair of 2 and pair of 3. So to find square root of 36, we take number once a pair and multiply. So square root of 36 will become 2×3 = 6

What is division method of finding square root?

Division method is used for finding square root. We break the number into segments. For example – 125 is broken into 1 and 25. Also 1520 is broken into 15 and 20. Now, we identify suitable integer which when multiplied by itself should give us first segment or lower than that. We will keep doing this , until we reached the last segment.
